Occupational safety is a team effort

Workplace cooperation in occupational safety is based on law and agreements between labour market organizations.

  • The goal of occupational safety is to ensure that work is done in a healthy manner and that work ability is maintained.
  • Occupational safety legislation obliges employers to ensure the prevention of occupational accidents and occupational safety.
  • Work must not impair the health of employees.

Through cooperation, employees have the opportunity to influence matters concerning safety and health. In cooperation, the employer is represented by an occupational safety manager appointed by the employer.

Employee representatives include occupational safety delegates, deputy delegates and members of the occupational safety committee. Employees may also be represented by occupational safety agents. As representatives of the employer, superiors have the main responsibility for occupational safety.

The Occupational Safety and Health Department of the Licensing and Supervision Authority supervises occupational safety and compliance with occupational safety regulations.

AKT draws up guidelines for work environment activities for four years at a time. The basis for occupational safety activities is the work occupational safety delegates, shop stewards and unions branches do at workplace-level.
