When the employment relationship ends

When the employment relationship ends, the employer must pay the employee their final salary and issue a reference.

It is important for the employee to ensure that all receivables are paid in the final salary, such as

  • wages
  • various supplements
  • holiday compensation
  • reduced working hours.

The employee must also request a written notice of termination of employment, stating the grounds for termination. In addition, an employee who becomes unemployed may need a certificate when registering on the Työmarkkinatori website and applying for unemployment benefit.

The employee must return all items belonging to the employer, such as keys, telephone, credit cards and work clothes.

When you retire

Work can also end when you retire. Upon retirement, you will receive information about your earnings-related pension from your pension institution. You receive information about a possible national pension or guarantee pension from Kela.

It is possible to work while you are retired. Working can affect your pension.

When you retire, remember to notify AKT’s member services. The information is not transferred directly to member services.

You are welcome to remain as a member of AKT during retirement. The normal membership fee is paid for work done during retirement, but no membership fee needs to be paid when retired.
