Working hours

Working time is the time during which an employee is available for the work assigned by the employer. Working time can be full-time or part-time.

Many AKT agreement sectors use periodic working time, according to which the regular working time in a two-week period is 80 hours in total. In this case, daily working time can be less than 8 hrs or more than 8 hours, depending on the shifts worked.

AKT also has agreement sectors that follow a daily working time, usually 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week.

You can find more working time regulations in your own sector’s collective agreement. Working time can also be determined in the employment contract.

Period of availability, familiar to road traffic

In AKT’s road traffic sectors, drivers are familiar with the term ‘period of availability’. It means all the time between the start and end of the working day. It includes everything, regardless of whether it is driving time, other working time, waiting time or a break.

A truck driver’s period of availability can be a maximum of 15 hours.

A bus driver’s period of availability in local and regional transport can be a maximum of 11.5 hours and in long-distance transport 14 hours, unless otherwise agreed.

Example: a truck driver´s working day starts at 06:00 in the morning and ends at 21:00 in the evening. The actual working time can be a maximum of 13 hours and of that, a maximum of 9 hours of driving time (10 hours twice a week).

In the AKT road transport sectors, periods of availability are based on negotiated collective agreements.
