The working environment must be safe

In the transport sector, people rarely have one specific place to work, but work is carried out in varying landscapes – in a moving car, an airplane or outdoors in ports in all possible conditions. The working environment must be safe.

It is necessary to ensure that the transport equipment is functional and safe, and that other tools are also in good condition. Although the responsibility for safety lies primarily with the employer, the employee must also notice and report safety deficiencies. If necessary, the employee must interrupt the work phase.

For example, stevedoring work can have serious risk points that must be taken into account when doing the work. One of the most common risks in the entire transport sector is a familiar danger to everyone, i.e. slipping.

The transport sector also has very specific challenges with regard to the working environment and well-being at work. The challenges of mobile work include organizing suitable break and social spaces. One example of this is the arrangement of toilet facilities for local transport drivers. AKT has been lobbying to ensure that breaks and facilities are improved.
