Free student membership is worth it

You can and should join the union while you are a student! As a student member, you immediately have access to the membership benefits and advocacy, such as advice on employment matters. And on top of it all, student membership is free.

You can join AKT while you are studying for a profession in AKT’s contracted sectors, i.e. the transport and logistics sector or the tourism sector.

There are many good reasons to join the union while you are studying:

  • The collective bargaining agreements (TES) negotiated by AKT also define the minimum terms of employment when you work in AKT’s contracted sectors.
  • The voice of young people is louder in AKT, the more young people are involved!
  • Student members are entitled to all membership benefits, except unemployment insurance and legal aid – and they are also included if you pay the membership fee, for example while you are working in a summer job (in this case, note that the employment requirement must be met).
  • You can get to know your future sector, its employees and employers in advance, for example at events, through the AKT magazine and the union’s website.
  • Membership benefits include advice on employment matters, youth activities, training and the benefits of partners – including Neste, A-Katsastus and Turva.
  • Student membership is free.

Membership in the Unemployment Fund

  • When you become a student member, you automatically apply for membership in the Open Unemployment Fund.
  • Unemployment Fund membership becomes effective when you have a valid employment relationship, even if it is only for one day.
  • Unemployment Fund membership begins on the day you start paying your membership fee.
  • You cannot join an Unemployment Fund if you are unemployed.
  • Send a copy of your employment contract, pay slip, or other similar document to the membership register as soon as your employment begins.

SAKKI membership

Join the group of vocational students SAKKI – free of charge! SAKKI will give you an official student card, and student membership is free.
