How to join AKT from another trade union

When you join AKT from another trade union:

  • Fill in the form with information about your previous union and unemployment fund.
  • Tick the box where you authorize us to handle the union change on your behalf.
  • Then you do not have to deal with your old union yourself, and your membership and unemployment security will continue uninterrupted.

Please note that according to the Unemployment Funds Act, a person cannot be a member of two unemployment funds at the same time. Therefore, make sure that you transfer from your old union and unemployment fund to AKT within 30 days. Then the employment condition that enables the earnings-related unemployment benefit you have accumulated will maintain. You must also ensure that your membership fee has been paid to your previous union and unemployment fund by the date of transfer.

Please remember that the membership fee collection agreement is always employer- and union-specific. Therefore, when changing unions, you must inform your payroll accountant that the collection from the previous union must be terminated.

Also, remember to tick the employer collection box on the membership form, and AKT will take care of the employer collection on your behalf. Always remember to check your payslip to ensure that the membership fee has been deducted. If the payments do not appear on your payslip, contact your payroll accountant.

How to change from AKT to another trade union

If you start working permanently in a sector other than AKT, you should change to a union that negotiates the collective agreements for your new sector.

If you do not know which union you belong to, you can find help on www.liitot.fi.

When you leave AKT to join another union:

  • Authorize the new union or unemployment fund to notify AKT of your termination of membership.
  • This will ensure that your membership in the new union and unemployment fund enters into force smoothly and without your membership being interrupted.
  • Please make sure that your membership fee or notification of membership fee exemption is in order until the transfer date.
  • If your membership fee is paid by the employer, inform the payroll accountant that they will not deduct the AKT membership fee after you have changed to a the new union.
